Sintra- Pena Palace

The Pena Palace was built in the 19th century in the romantic style by a German architect who had studied the castles on the Rhine River.  It was the the home of Portuguese royalty when they wanted to escape from the confines of Lisbon.

To me, it looked like it had been built with legos, only on a larger scale.  Something out of a Salvador Dali dream.  I especially liked its red clock tower and the animal heads carved in stone around the entryway.
